Training and Club Nights

Skill Levels

Children are placed into one of three groups depending on skill level and fitness, this will ensure that training sessions are designed to deliver maximum benefit and training outcomes for each swimmer. Any inquiries about the level of a swimmer can be directed to the coaches, preferably outside of scheduled training times. Squad sessions times are circulated to members regularly during the year. They are subject to change depending on availability of coaches, and your acceptance of this is appreciated in advance. 

 

Lane 1 - Beginner Squad
Practice Times: Up to 3 sessions per week.

Lane 2 - Intermediate Group
Practice Times: 3 - 5 sessions per week.

Lane 3 
Practice Times: 5 sessions per week.


Club Nights

Throughout the year Barras swimmers have the opportunity to compete in club nights and meets with swimmers of all ability levels. These meets provide the chance to measure individual progress (PB’s), receive one-on-one coaching, and socialise with team mates. The competition helps a swimmer stay motivated during practice as they strive to improve. 

Club nights and/or meets are generally the last Friday of every month, weather permitting. These will be advertised in advanced and registrations will be sought in the week leading up to the meet. 

The club relies on the assistance of parents to run these swimming events, and therefore at least one parent must be present at all meets to assist with time keeping or other duties on the day.

 

 

Equipment

Children are encouraged to supply at a minimum the following equipment:
Bathers – racer style for girls, speedo briefs or jammers for boys
Goggles
Swim fins
Kick board 
Water bottle
